Man… the week sure went by fast.
It’s Tuesday already. I can’t believe that it’s only 2 days ago that we went on a camping trip with Kairos1 in the majestic pine forest in the Sierras.
We first made a quick stop at the Sierra Lodge to pick up my husband who just finished his Bible teachers training with Pastor Ed and his wife Kelly. As someone working in the architecture field, I was so impressed with the new spiral staircase that Richard put in couple weeks ago, and also at the great varnishing job on the deck. Yep, every part was done by our church members.
Then we hurried to continue on our journey to set up the tents before dark. Yeah, the sisters finished the tents while the brothers were still struggling…
We had a fun night of sharing stories, puns, s’mores, and ended the night with brushing up under the stars. How appropriate as we just studied Isaiah 40: “Lift your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one, and calls them each by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.” [Oh Lord, my God, when I in awesome wonder, consider all the works Thy hands hath made, I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, Thy power throughout the universe displayed.]
The next day we had a full day. We started off first by Bible reading by the placid Lake Spaulding… then it was kayaking!!! I had boasted that since I am a civilized peacemaker, I have been pretty successful at staying dry in my previous boating records. But this time definitely made up for all the other times: within minutes that Ken and I rowed off, our kayak flipped and we had to swim and drag our boats to shore. I must say, getting drenched and swimming in the lake was kind of fun.
Afterward we grilled some BBQ chicken in two flavors. I marinated the chicken with the help of Mr. Yoshida, and also enjoyed some fancy grilled onions.
Then it was a nice hike to Island Lake. [See the men looking manly trying to see who throws the farthest rock into the lake, no success at skipping rocks though =)
After that we were ready to go… my friend Grace told us about this legendary beef noodle place in Davis, and it happened to be a cheap chinese place that’s attached to the kwikie mart at Chevron. But I do say, the beef noodle soup was legendary!
I just thank God for the packed and wonderful time that we had, and the joy of experiencing nature with Kairos, not to mention the fun jokes and puns. Towards the end, one friend who joined us said, “he has been pun-alized.” to read all the details, check out our pun master Ernie’s entry: http://kairosfellowship1.blogspot.com/
Look alive! After much popular demand, we along with Kairos 1 will be heading out to the Sierras near Lake Spaulding this coming Friday afternoon and returning Saturday evening. What’s the plan?
There will be campfires, canoeing, hiking, tents and expect s’mores! I love summers precisely because of these outdoor opportunities! Although it’ll be pretty chilly at night. Hope you can make it. Stay tuned for pictures.
