We are VERY excited that Richard will give us a presentation on “The Reliability of the Bible.” We will investigate some of the evidence regarding this topic. If you’ve ever had questions like:
- Are the stories in the Bible real?
- How can you trust the Bible?
Then this is a presentation you don’t want to miss! Bring your friends!
Afterwards, the guys will head over to the gym for some 3-3 basketball and the girls are invited to Alameda for a wonderful sleepover with events planned for the following day. Come join the fun!
Are you getting used to the cold weather of the Bay Area yet? Join us for some Island Adventures! But dress warmly.
Destination 1: TREASURE ISLAND
Well… Treasure Island is really not that exciting, but it does have a SPECTACULAR view of San Francisco.
Destination 2: GOLDEN ISLAND
There will also be a MYSTERY ISLAND we will visit. Come find out what it is!
After bible study this past Friday, some of us decided to go have some fun with mini golf.
We had a great deal of friendly competition and none of us played really seriously. As seen here, Richard had some difficulty getting the ball through the obstacles so he resorted to some “creative” methods in order to finish the course:
Where: Sierra Lodge
This past Friday (Oct. 3, 2008) Ken gave a Bible study on John 1. After an insightful Bible study, we drove to Alameda to catch a breather from the usual studying. We made quesadilla & fresh salsa – “La Salsa del Alberto,” as Ken called it, although it was more of “La Salsa del Carmenita-Tim-y-Alberto.” We learned quickly that putting tomatoes into the food processor is a bad idea if you want fresh red salsa. Nothing beats tomatoes chopped by hands. But the onions and the cilantro came out perfect from the food processor. Lessons from the great chefs of Kairos 3.
In the meantime, Dora shared her “secret recipe” of peanut butter cookies imbeded with Reeses Pieces. By that time we devoured too much of the quesidilla to really enjoy that. O well, we will bring those back for another occassion.
We shared a fun game of 1 truth and 1 lie. Some stories are not so good, while others are good lessons to learn from. Here is one, guess if this is a true story or not:
I woke up late for my final. The final is supposed to be 8am, but I got there at 8:30am. I got to the classroom in Hearst, and realized that the professor is not my professor. I asked her whether this is Math 1B. She said no, and told me to check the final schedule on the door. So I did, and realized that my final was yesterday.
Pretty painful, huh? So if you are a student and if you are reading this, double check and triple check your final schedules. We ended the night with great anticipation for the Cal vs. ASU game the next day.
So if you missed out on the fun this past friday, no worries. We have more Bible studies and fun friday activities coming up. We hope to see you next Friday!
Tired of studying yet? Looking for some power brain stimulation? Join us for a lecture from two Oxford scholars!
Thursday 10/9: 7pm | Wheeler Auditorium, UC Berkeley
1. IS FAITH DELUSIONAL? | Michael Ramsden
2. JOURNEY: A QUEST FOR MEANING | Os Guinness
There will be a time of Q & A. So bring all your intellectual questions!
Michael Ramsden has been European Director of RZIM Zacharias Trust since its foundation in 1997. He is also Joint Director of the Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics and Lecturer in Christian Apologetics at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford. Michael was brought up in the Middle East and later moved to England where he worked for the Lord Chancellor’s department investing funds. He taught Moral Philosophy and lectured for the International Seminar on Jurisprudence and Human Rights in Strasbourg. Michael speaks to a wide variety of audiences worldwide and is involved in a number of initiatives to equip and train emerging leaders and evangelists throughout Europe. He is married to Anne and they live in Oxford with their three children.
Os Guinness was born in China during World War II and remained there until 1951. Educated in England, Os studied at University of Oxford and graduated with a D.Phil in the social sciences. He has written or edited more than twenty books, including The American Hour (Free Press, 1993), The Call (Word, 1998), Time for Truth, and Long Journey Home (Doubleday, 2001). Since 1984, he has lived in the Washington, DC area. He was a Guest Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson Center for International Studies and the Brookings Institution. He is currently Senior Fellow at The Trinity Forum.
His deep concern is to bridge the chasm between academic knowledge and popular knowledge, taking things that are academically important and making them intelligible and practicable to a wider audience, especially as they concern matters of public policy.
Come join us as we explore the world famous California Giant Redwood Forest at Muir Woods.
We will take a short hike in the morning, have lunch together before hitting the books again the afternoon.

BBall Ambassadors?
I am really excited that Richard will be teaching Bible study this week. While we are having Bible study/sharing in California, both Ken and Tony will be visiting our brothers and sisters in Austin. Pastor Manny was so excited that he arranged for a ”play-off” between these Berkeley alums and the legendary Austin students. If you are not familiar with UT Austin, the campus has one of the best sports facilities of American universities. One Austin student was so excited about this game he called his other 10 friends to come!
I am not that confident about our Berkeley ambassadors, but I am looking forward to hearing about the action in this Berkeley v. Austin game.
While we are talking about sports, I was reminded of a joke Pastor Ed told me when we were all discouraged in the last anti-climatic season of Cal Football.
Get ready for this:
Mama Bear and Papa Bear are getting a divorce. The judge asked Baby Bear with whom he would like to live. “Would you like to live with Mama Bear?” the judge asked.
Baby Bear replied, “No, Mama Bear beats me.”
“What about Papa Bear?” the judge asked.
“No, he beats me too,” responds Baby Bear.
“Then who do you want to live with?”
“The Cal Bears, because they beat no one.”
GO BEARS!!!
